Social media automation is becoming more important as the number of different channels you are using grows by leaps and bounds. Just when you start to get things cranking on one site another pops up. I am not talking bout the flavor of the week type sites but some of the new rapidly growing sites like Oink,Path and Pinterest. Social communication also is growing on the actual website as well as on Mobile friendly sites.

While you choose channels to match your market it can get very labour-intensive and the work involved can lead you down some of those wonderful timewasting holes.

Think about automation tools to take appropriate content and use different social media pathways or channels to distribute it. Don’t just duplicate every item in many places but set up intelligent automation based on your subjects and targets, where they tend to hangout and the message you convey.

Repurposing content for different channels is just smart marketing. Use pictures,audio,video as well as the written word. Mix them up and see what works for your current tactics. Then test using tools like Clicky or Google Analytics to see what best accomplishes your objective which could be traffic, engagement or conversion.

A great new tool I have seen is IFTT. Short for If This Then That. You create sequences of action called recipes. An example of this might be be whenever you publish a post on your blog announce it on Twitter,post a link on your Google Plus Page, send a link to your Facebook profile.

It is important to note that your messages can be tailored to specific “recipes” for cross-posting in the process you wish to follow. Make sure that this is not just a total multiplicative process but that you are adding value for each channel and you will see better results and more engagement through it.
